For Mac, Windows, Chrome and Edge

Small files.
Nothing leaves your device.

Chittu compresses, converts and resizes images in bulk: a folder of 300 photos, or every image on a website. Free, with no batch limit.

Processed on this device. Nothing uploaded.

The Mac and Windows apps work with Wi-Fi off. The Chrome and Edge extension processes images in your browser.

Example result. Savings depend on your images.

Three menus

Pick one job. Run it on every image at once.

Start by choosing a folder or some files. Then open one menu. Each menu shows only its own settings, so a resize never changes your format by accident.

Compress

Smaller files, same format, same size.

  • Three presets: Smallest, Balanced, Best.
  • Your own quality, from 1 to 100.
  • A target file size: type “200 KB” and Chittu finds the best quality that fits.
  • Lossless: smaller files with no pixel changed.

If Chittu cannot make a file smaller, you get the original back, marked “Kept”.

Convert

A different format for a whole folder.

  • JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
  • Transparent images going to JPEG: you choose the background colour first.
  • The size stays the same.

iPhone photos (HEIC) open on Mac and on Windows with Microsoft’s HEVC extension.

Resize

Every image the size you need.

  • By width, height, longest edge or percentage.
  • Exact size: set a box such as 1080 × 1080. Chittu fills the box and crops the edges evenly from the centre. You see the crop on your first image before anything is cut.
  • Never stretched, never enlarged.

The format stays the same.

One new folder per batch. Results go into a new folder named with the date and time, such as Chittu 2026-10-08 14.30.12. Subfolders are kept. Nothing is overwritten.

Chittu for Chrome and Edge

Any web page or local folder. One click.

Open Chittu on a page and it lists every image, with its size and how much you can save. No downloading and re-uploading: the images come straight from the page.

Every image on the page you are looking at

Including lazy-loaded images, responsive image sets and CSS backgrounds. Pick the ones you want, choose Compress, Convert or Resize, and save them as separate files or one ZIP.

A whole site, one page at a time

Chittu reads the sitemap first, stays on the same site, respects robots.txt and stops at the page cap you set. It asks at a slow, steady rate, and you can pause or stop. An image used on many pages is listed once.

Before a scan starts, you confirm that you have the right to download the site’s images.

Files and folders from your computer

Pick files or a whole folder, subfolders included, the same as the desktop apps. Results go to your Downloads folder, in a new Chittu folder named with the date and time.

Processed in this browser. Nothing uploaded.

To scan a page, Chittu fetches that site’s own pages and images from that site’s own servers, the way your browser does. It asks for access one website at a time, only when a scan needs it.

Privacy

There is no Chittu server.

Nothing is uploaded, by any version of Chittu. This is exactly what each one does on the network.

The rules

Your images, handled the same way every time.

Never larger

When you only compress, a file never gets bigger. If Chittu can’t make it smaller, you get the original back, marked “Kept”. If you ask for a new size or format and the result is bigger, Chittu still gives you what you asked for and shows the difference.

Never enlarged

Chittu never upscales an image and never stretches one. Resizing happens before compression.

Colour and rotation kept

The colour profile and the photo’s orientation are always kept. Camera details and location are removed only if you ask.

Honest about targets

If a file can’t reach your target size at an acceptable quality, Chittu says so, for example “Smallest at 320 KB, target was 200 KB”. It never shrinks your image to cheat the number.

FAQ

Questions

Is Chittu really free?

Yes. There is no paid tier, no in-app purchase, no ads, no account and no limit on how many images you process.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The Mac and Windows apps process images on your computer and work with Wi-Fi off. The extension processes images in your browser. There is no Chittu server to upload to.

Does the extension work offline?

Your own files are processed in your browser and are never sent anywhere. Scanning a page or a site needs the internet, because Chittu reads that site’s pages and images from the site itself, the way your browser does when you visit. Nothing is sent back.

Why does the extension ask for access to a website?

Some sites serve their images from another domain, such as a content delivery network. To read those images the browser needs your permission. Chittu asks once per website, only when a scan needs it, never at install. You can remove the access at any time in your browser’s extension settings.

Will my files get bigger?

Not when you only compress. If Chittu cannot make a file smaller, it gives you the original back, marked “Kept”. If you ask for a new format or size, Chittu does what you asked even if the file grows, and shows the change.

Are my originals changed?

No. Each batch goes into a new folder, named like Chittu 2026-10-08 14.30.12. Your originals stay where they are. Replacing originals is available only if you choose it and confirm.

How does exact size work?

Set a box, such as 1080 × 1080. Chittu scales each image until it covers the box, then crops the edges evenly from the centre. It never stretches and never enlarges. An image smaller than the box is cropped to the right shape and stays smaller; the result tells you so. You see the crop on your first image before the batch starts.

Can I set a file size, like “under 200 KB”?

Yes. Type the size in the Compress menu and Chittu finds the best quality that fits. If a file can’t fit at an acceptable quality, Chittu tells you the smallest size it reached.

Can I download images from any website?

Chittu helps you work with images on sites you have the right to use, such as your own site or a client’s. Before a whole-site scan, Chittu asks you to confirm that you have that right. You are responsible for respecting copyright.

How do I get support?

Email info@happycoders.in. If something goes wrong, the app can save a log file that you can choose to attach. Chittu never sends it for you.

Who makes Chittu?

HappyCoders (Happycoders Private Limited), a software company in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India.
